Teeth Whitening
It’s natural for teeth to become discolored or stained over time. So, one of the simplest ways to drastically improve the look of your smile and take years off of your appearance is by eliminating stains and brightening the color of your teeth with professional teeth whitening treatments.
What Causes Tooth Discoloration?
Tooth discoloration and staining can occur for several reasons. The most common reason people’s teeth become stained is as a result of consuming highly pigmented foods and drinks such as berries, chocolate, coffee, wine, tea, and sodas containing dyes.
Additionally, tooth enamel can become thinner during the natural aging process, revealing more of the darker-colored layer of dentin that’s located just beneath the enamel.
Teeth can also become discolored due to using tobacco products, taking certain medications, as a side effect of certain diseases, and more.
Professional Teeth Whitening Options Available at ONE Dental
At ONE Dental, our patients can get teeth whitening results fast with Zoom in-office whitening treatments and Zoom take-home teeth whitening trays.
In the office, Zoom works quickly to achieve your desired look by brightening your smile up to eight shades in under an hour. At home, with individually prescribed whitening trays and gels, you can achieve your desired results in just a few days of treatments.
Over-the-Counter Teeth Whitening Products
Over-the-counter teeth whitening products such as whitening toothpaste, strips, gels, mouthwash, and more can also be used. These products, however, do not deliver results nearly as quickly as professional teeth whitening. They also cannot provide a level of whitening that our dentist prescribes. As a result, it’s difficult to know what kind of results you can expect from teeth whitening products purchased at the store.
We often recommend getting your teeth to the brightness you desire with professional whitening treatments and then maintaining your brighter smile with over-the-counter whitening products.
Is It Safe To Whiten My Teeth?
As long as you are using whitening products obtained from the dentist’s office and/or products tested and approved by the American Dental Association, whitening is safe for your teeth.
Sometimes, teeth whitening products can cause some minor sensitivity. This sensitivity usually resolves on its own. However, if you experience tooth sensitivity, especially after using whitening products, we encourage you to talk with one of our dentists about a professional fluoride treatment that can help fortify your tooth enamel and alleviate the issue.
