When Might I Need a Dental Crown?

What To Expect When Getting a Dental Crown

The process for getting a dental crown is fairly simple and can usually be completed with two visits to our dental office. During your first appointment, the dentist examines your mouth and talks with you about your goals. We then prepare your tooth for crown placement. The preparation process involves shaving off a thin layer of tooth enamel to make room for the dental crown to fit over your tooth. Once your tooth is ready for a crown, we take a digital impression of your mouth and use the impression to custom-design your permanent crown. Before you leave, we fit you with a temporary crown that covers and protects your tooth until your permanent crown is ready. Once your permanent crown is ready, we have you come in for a second appointment. Our dentist cleans and dries your natural tooth and then places the permanent crown using dental cement to fix it into place.
